As LA’s youth struggle to bring truth, love and justice to the harsh concrete of the mean streets, a growing number of courageous souls emerges from the shadows to support and uplift them. To youth forgotten behind the brick walls and razor wire of LA’s prisons and projects, these valiant heroes and sheroes are simply known as. .
Godmoms and Godpops - $5,000 and Up:
$5,000 could provide for development, printing and distribution of a RealSearch report - aimed at exposing the impact of criminalization and mass incarceration of youth of color. Or provide transportation for ten trips to Sacramento to advocate for state legislation that improves conditions and opportunities for youth in the system; or the building of a graphic design, video and recording studio at the YJC’s social justice high school or providing a mobile D-Jay truck to out reach to youth and their families throughout L.A. County.
Corner Prophets - $2,500 - $4,999:
$2,500 provides a youth organizer stipend for six months; or provides 10 students at YJC’s high school a public transportation pass for a full year; Or provides water, electricity and phone/internet access for 1 month at Chuco’s Justice Center — home to more than 30 groups and used by more that 15,000 people a year.
Big Homies - $1,000 - $2,499:
$1000 would provide a computer or 100 books for our members at on of the juvenile halls or camps; OR provides the supplies needed for youth to produce a public mural.
Lil Homies - $200 - $999:
Could contribute to our transportation needs (we have traveled more than 300, 000 miles in LA County from ‘hoods to lockups; or a field trip for 30 students. (for many members it’s a 1st on a plane, 1st out of LA.
Road Dawgs - $1 - $29:
Provide for our daily survival — toilet paper, trash bags, dumpster fees; water purification and stamps.
